The Italian stoner doom metal trio Black Capricorn premieres new music video for Evil Horde of Lucifer, to promote their upcoming LP Omega, that will be released on November 2 by Stone Stallion Rex on a double black vinyl. Careful how loudly you play it - I could see it blowing speakers!

Dead Witches is the name of a new project from drummer Mark Greening, who is best known as one of the main members of Electric Wizard and Ramesses, who released a couple of legendary albums, and Psychedelic Witchcraft's vocalist Virginia Monti, with bassist Carl Geary and guitarist Greg Elk. Sadly, Greg passed away at the end of last year. Such a big loss, I corresponded with him a couple of times and he seemed like such a nice guy.
Ouija, recorded at the same studio in which Electric Wizard had recorded Dopethrone, only consists of five tracks plus an awesome, atmospheric introduction and it really leaves you wanting more, but at least all the songs are equally good. Yep, there is no bad song on Ouija! The first word that comes to mind after listening to this album is 'heavy'. It's a thrilling vintage-sounding production inspired by traditional doom metal, Electric Wizard-esque stoner doom and witchcraft. The band combines a monumental riffing attitude with psychedelic sounds.
Dead, the first track after the spooky intro, is a fantastic, groovy and psychedelic song with a hypnotic riff, trance-like drumming and a trippy solo at the end. The next track, Drawing Down The Moon, is true stoner insanity with a great riff and fantastic vocals. Virginia's voice and performance always appear to be great, but she surpassed herself with this one. The last three songs Ouija, Mind Funeral and A World Of Darkness are equally heavy and slow, with massive riffs to blow the pavement from the path you walk. Compared to them, Drawing Down The Moon almost sounds like some sort of pop-doom, even though it's still my favourite song from Ouija.
Let me just tell you that this record is tremendous. Maybe not original, but without a doubt a must to check out. Ouija is basically the 'groovy Electric Wizard album' I wish Electric Wizard had actually made instead of Time to Die. I promise you that as soon as you start playing Ouija, you don't wanna stop!
Ouija will be released on February 10 through Heavy Psych Sounds Records and it's now available for Pre-Order.

Swedish doomsters Monolord have premiered a music video for their song "Lord of Suffering" taken from their single/EP Lord of Suffering/Die in Haze (released on August 12, 2016). The video is compiled from footage shot during Monolord's extensive US and EU touring last summer.

The Brooklyn based vintage psychedelic doom rockers from Heavy Traffic just signed with Twin Earth Records (BTW check out the band Haunted from this label) and here's a preview of their next album. Is it a Single or EP? I don't know, call it whatever you like.
Heavy Traffic is a good combination of loud psychedelic rock and doomy rhythms, following in the footsteps of bands like Witch, Winters and Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats. I can also hear small traces of the group’s influence on early ’90s British shoegazing bands like My Bloody Valentine (or it could be just my imagination). The guitar is overdriven and fuzzed-out, the bass and drums pound frantically and it's all captured in great lo-fi production. The singer has a fairly androgynous high-pitched voice, something eerie, yet very enjoyable. They definitely got my attention with this two song Single, now I really want to hear the whole thing.
Basically, some kick-ass psychedelic grooves on here, definitely worth checking out! If you have not been exposed to Heavy Traffic's earlier work, then this is the place to start. If you like those songs a lot then delve a little further back and get the rest of their records!

The Aussies from Comacozer got together in the summer of 2013 to do some heavy rocking and space jamming. After releasing several EPs, they finally brought out their first studio album Astra Planeta, a name that fits perfectly with its sound.
Their instrumental five track debut album was recorded in January 2016 and released on August 13 through Headspin Records. The record is mostly filled with subtile cosmic melodies, wonderful dreamy guitars and contemplating psychedelics, but they know exactly when to switch over to heavier tones. It starts out as a highly atmospheric and beautiful blend of sounds, with memorable melodies that slowly transforms into something more doom orientated. Especially the last song, Hypnotized by Apophis is an experience you won't soon forget. I surely won’t, it stuck in my head for good. Every note is considered and played with care and a sense of craft. The more you listen to it, the more it falls into place and traps you under its spell.
From beginning to end, it truly is a fantastic work and leaves the listener satisfied. Get this album. Stare at the mythic cover, then insert the disc into the player of your choice and enjoy the astral trip.

The new heavily occult, retro psyche fuzz project Dead Witches, which features Psychedelic Witchcraft frontwoman Virginia Monti and Electric Wizard’s Mark Greening (Ramesses, With The Dead, etc.), has issued some teaser video clips. The snippets are an intriguing preview that allows us aural glimpses of what we can expect when Dead Witches, who are rounded out by Carl Geary and Greg Elk, make their official public debut. The audio aspect of these teasers is an alluring, somewhat hypnotic style of music steeped in vintage aesthetics and mystique.

I have to catch up with some older requests. To start with I present you the first band from Africa on Stoner Mountain. It's great to get music from all corners of the world.
Demons From the Dungeon Dimension is some heavy psyched out vintage doom band from Durban, South Africa. This is their self-released debut album. They created a distinct blend of stoner, Seattle Sound, heavy & doom metal in a raw 70's package. You can even notice some slightly tangible oldschool black metal influence in one or two songs. I guesss Windhand is the closest band that comes to my mind. The production is not that bad, but very far from perfect. But you must remember that it's a DIY record and it's not that easy to record an album as a metal band in South Africa.

Slow Green Thing is a rising young band hailing from Dresden, Germany, "II" is the their second (yeah, obviously) full-length. It's filled with 7 tracks of thick, slow, melodic doom metal with some tight and catchy guitar solos. Although their citing Black Sabbath and Deep Purple as their major influence I'm getting more a Jerry Cantrell/Alice In Chains vibe here (especially the vocals). Let's just say they're influenced by all the good stuff. This underground mix of modern high-gain sound with a heavy, classic 70's vibe is just waiting to be discovered. This is the kind of album that cries for another spin to discover more. Don't miss it!

Estoner is a mighty four-piece band from Tallinn, Estonia.
Lennud Saatana Dimensioonis is their second album and it brings us an interesting form of dark, psychedelic doom. These guys deliver a really hard-hitting sound from start to finish, no fillers, only killers. The album is filled with crushing, epic and atmospheric sound, even with some great black metal inspirations. I really love this album and it gets better after each listen. Listen to it, if you don't believe me. A huge and immersive sound, highly recommended! I hope this band gets some recognition in the stoner/doom metal community.

Back to Croatia and one of my favourite stoner rock scene. Umor are from Zagreb, Crotia. They describe themselves as loud and heavy atmospheric rock/metal band with stoner and doom influences. I love their split with Cojones (another great Croatian band) back in 2007 and I was listening to it everyday for a very long time. This EP almost as good as that Split. Highly recommended!

The self-released debut E.P. by Finnish retro rockers. The name "Vinum Sabbatum" can be a little bit misleading, because this is more Atomic Rooster than Black Sabath. But still, Vinum Sabbatum is a bloody great traditional doom metal act.

Obey is an awesome underground psychodelic doom band from Austria. If you like Electric Wizard, Suma, Reverend Bizarre etc. You will like them. Check out this instrumental demo.

The second live album.
A definitive statement of the new Om energy, recorded on 24-track multi-track remote audio at their 2008 performance in New York. Mastered by Carl Saff, the audio quality is strikingly clear and full. On this night Om performed the seminal album Conference of the Birds live in its entirety. Newly invoked energy resonates in the sound of the band: the dynamics between Emil Amos and Al Cisneros have rendered these songs, and Om's sound, into a higher evolution.

Conference of the Birds is my favourite Om album, the first song At Giza is incredibile.
Where the previous album, Variations on a Theme, opened with a squeal of feedback an overdriven bass, this album opens with relative calm, a deceptively simple rhythm at minor volume, and vocals that gently seep through the veil. This change in tone alone proves that simply being heavy is not necessary, and that the lyrical essence carries much more weight. The overall experience is similar to what one may find in the company of monks intoning sacred verses, and serves as a unique and powerful cleansing agent. - Toka
