Ready for a new portion of cool records? Once again, here are 11 records from over the past couple weeks, from French stoner metal to British black metal. As I mentioned last time, most of them deserve a separate review, but I just don't have the time to do that, so at least I can give'em some recognition. BTW. Welcome to my new series - Stoner Mountain's Weekly Bandcamp Discoveries. The name is pretty self-explanatory. I'll be posting my Bandcamp discoveries every week. Here are 11 records from over the past two weeks that you should check out. From French stoner rock to Amercian black metal, here are some of the choicest records from around the world. Most of them deserve a separate review, but I just don't have the time to do that, so at least I can give'em some recognition.
Possessor is an unholy 3 piece from the UK. Dead By Dawn is their second full-length album. It was released in July and is still available as limited edition cassette. How cool is that? They are offering these tapes for 6 pounds. Check the bandcamp link below.
Possessor is a band that blends many influences from the past & present. From the classic Sabbathian and Pentagram grooves, to the massive Electric Wizard riffage and Melvins craziness. With a bit of oldschool death metal and a touch of the first and second wave of black metal. I even hope that their next album will have more black metal influences. Last but not least, the 80's thrash metal high-speed. Yes, it's fast, thrashy, pounding and heavy while maintaining a somewhat distinctive personality through the sound. Of course you can't forget all the horror films inspirations. Just to mention one. The album title is obviously referring to Evil Dead 2 (aka the best movie ever made). But every more experienced horror fanatic will quickly notice all of them.
All in all, an excellent slab of heavy metal with more than enough to keep even the most discerning listener engaged for countless listens. I know I’ll certainly be revisiting this one over and over again.
I have to catch up with some older requests. To start with I present you the first band from Africa on Stoner Mountain. It's great to get music from all corners of the world.
Demons From the Dungeon Dimension is some heavy psyched out vintage doom band from Durban, South Africa. This is their self-released debut album. They created a distinct blend of stoner, Seattle Sound, heavy & doom metal in a raw 70's package. You can even notice some slightly tangible oldschool black metal influence in one or two songs. I guesss Windhand is the closest band that comes to my mind. The production is not that bad, but very far from perfect. But you must remember that it's a DIY record and it's not that easy to record an album as a metal band in South Africa.

Estoner is a mighty four-piece band from Tallinn, Estonia.
Lennud Saatana Dimensioonis is their second album and it brings us an interesting form of dark, psychedelic doom. These guys deliver a really hard-hitting sound from start to finish, no fillers, only killers. The album is filled with crushing, epic and atmospheric sound, even with some great black metal inspirations. I really love this album and it gets better after each listen. Listen to it, if you don't believe me. A huge and immersive sound, highly recommended! I hope this band gets some recognition in the stoner/doom metal community.
